History

now

After 14 years with Kock & Vin it felt like we had come so far we could come within classical style backdrop of modern west Swedish gastronomy. We have always felt a bit rebellious and been proud to dare to go our own ways. Somewhere, it becomes the case that if we continue to do the same thing tomorrow as today it will stop the development and soon you are no longer the followed but the one that follows.

So Koka is born. A modern restaurant created after our guests' different needs.  A desire to create a unique dining experience in a unique dining room with perfect harmony between the drinks, the service and our guests. Some days you would like sit a whole evening while others it's nice to just be able to come in for a quicker dinner but not for the sake of compromise on quality.

Gastronomically, we will strive to refine what we already work with, Modern west Swedish gastronomy. However, we will lower our rates and reduce menu sizes to adapt to our guests' wishes.

Welcome to Koka

then

Kock & Vin was opened in november 2000 by Björn Persson.
The dining room was originally split into two with one half as wine bar and the other half a bistro with obvious French influences. In 2006 the basement was acquired which until then had been a café. Then began the start of what became Kock & Vin. A number of strategic decisions were made and we chose to renovate the entire restaurant as well as to rebuild the kitchen. With new kitchen staff and sharpened ambitions the decision was quite simple even if the implementation was quite difficult. Kock & Vin has been the leading restaurant in Gothenburg and belonged to the top tier in Sweden during the last 6 years. Cooking has been classed as Modern West Swedish Gastronomy and had a holistic philosophy where all elements such as food, drink, service and environment has had equal weight. Kock & Vin has held a Michelin star and has been positioned as an International Master Class by the White Guide over the last few years.

Björn Person originated as early as the late 1990s the work to renew the Swedish cuisine at his former restaurant, Kungstorget which he ran with Johan Holmberg from 1997-2000. Prior to that Björn was, among other things, for many years the restaurant keeper at Thorskog's Castle.
